Legitimacy in and out: Why local governments collaborate with researchers and how citizens respond
This paper combines a field experiment with municipal officials and a survey experiment with citizens to examine whether input and output legitimacy motivate local governments to collaborate with researchers and whether such collaboration increases citizens’ trust in government.
